Are You Ready

Commitment in Britain tends to happen organically — less explicitly defined than in the US, more gradual, more implied. Which is lovely until it creates ambiguity about where you actually stand.

Before moving in: Have the practical conversations — money (who pays what), space, routines that are incompatible, and what you both actually want longer-term. Love being sufficient to manage the practicalities is a common and costly assumption.

"Are we exclusive?": In the UK, this conversation tends to come up later and more awkwardly than in the US. It's worth having explicitly, even if it feels a bit un-British to do so.

When the spark fades: Normal in any long relationship. What matters is whether both of you are actively choosing to tend to it — through real presence, shared experience, genuine attention.
