Flirting Over Text

Keeping the conversation going: Ask real questions, share genuine opinions, respond to what was actually said. British dating-app conversations can default to very flat back-and-forth — "how was your weekend?" "yeah good thanks, yours?" — which gets nowhere. Be the person who breaks that pattern.

Flirting over text: British flirting tends towards dry wit and gentle teasing rather than direct compliments. A well-placed sarcastic observation or a callback to something they mentioned earlier tends to land better than "you're really attractive." The humour is the flirt.

After the first date: Message the same evening or next day. "Really enjoyed that — let's do it again" is perfectly sufficient. No games. The three-day rule went out with MySpace.

Asking someone out: Directly, with a specific suggestion. "Fancy grabbing a drink on Thursday?" is better than "we should meet up sometime." Vague invitations create vague responses.

No reply: One follow-up after 24+ hours if things had been going well. If still nothing — accept it. Ghosting is rude but unfortunately common. Don't send a third message.
